After 13 months, the project “Una Gricia per Amatrice”, created by Rustichella d’Abruzzo to help the people affected by the seismic event which heavily struck central Italy on 24 August 2016, has successfully ended with great participation and involvement. Chefs, Rustichella d’Abruzzo customers, Italian and international restaurants offered their own contribution through a crowdfunding gourmet project with our artisan pasta playing the main role, allowing to reach the amount of €10.000.
On 24 October 2016, the GRICIA, culinary symbol of the town of Amatrice in the province of Rieti, “ancestor”of the Amatriciana and shepherds’ main dish, was cooked in 70 Countries in the world simultaneously, strengthening its image as symbol of a strong and kind territory such as the one of Amatrice, part of L’Aquila until 1927. Three types of Rustichella d’Abruzzo pasta were chosen for the events organised to support the project: Spaghettone PrimoGrano (100% durum wheat from Abruzzo), Spaghettone del Leone and Bucatini. These pasta shapes were also marked by a special “Limited Edition” label and available to all the customers who wanted to donate to Amatrice a symbolic amount of € 0,50 per pack, through their orders from all over the world. All proceeds have been transferred to a bank account which has been open for 13 months, thus giving everybody the chance to be part of it.
The sum will be delivered in the form of maxi cheque to the Mayor of Amatrice Sergio Pirozzi by Maria Stefania Peduzzi, owner and Marketing & Communication Manager of Rustichella d’Abruzzo, on Wednesday, December 6th, at Ristorante Ma-Tru, one of the most renowned restaurants in Amatrice which was toppled by the quake and now rebuilt in a different part of the town, symbolising the attachment of the people to their own land. Like many young people from this area, Daniele Bonanni, owner of the restaurant, is a young businessman that has always contributed to let the world know the history of his land, by opening the doors of his restaurant and making tourists and fellow citizens taste his main dish and the typical food of the area, in an atmosphere always full of joy which used to make Ma-Tru a very well appreciated place.
“Through its history made of family and tradition – said Maria Stefania Peduzzi – Rustichella d’Abruzzo once again shows how to make a difference thanks to active cooperation and collaboration. A happy ending for this charity project in which friends and customers from all over the world have been involved. With this simple act we have tried to support all those families who lost their loved ones in the earthquake.”
After the delivery ceremony, which will be broadcast live on our Facebook page, RdA Ambassador Chef Michele Papagno, born in Amatrice, will prepare the dinner for all of us.
Special thanks go to: Ducci, Andronaco, All Italian Trnidad, Meregalli, Anamac Fine Food, SIAGI, A.S.D. Calice Bike, Albergo ristorante Rosita, Al Pepe Rosa di Paolo Spaziani and Hospital Consulting for their precious contribution.
